Our principal stock bull has been Kestle Emperor 1. Bred out of Roger Rundle’s tremendous cow Kestle Dahlia 26, dam of the famous Kestle Dahlia 46, winner of 16 Breed Championships including the Royal Cornwall Show and the last ever Royal Show at Stoneleigh.
She was sired by Lumbylaw Leo 2 whose progeny include two South Devon National Show Champions, and Kestle Leo 5th - sold for 5500 gns in 2010, Kestle Leo 12th - sold for 6200 gns in 2012 and Kestle Tulip 86 - sold for a South Devon female breed record of 6800 gns.
Kestle Emperor 1’s sire, Welland Valley Hadrian 5, has produced excellent prize winning cattle including champion South Devon at the breed calf show at Peterborough East of England Smithfield winter stock festival, and 1st prize winner and the Reserve Championship at the Smithfield Calf Show.
Bred by George and Anne Dart, Woodhayes Homer 5 was sold for 6700gns at the Society sale to Mr Douglas Scott and his Grove Herd of South Devons.
Woodhayes Homer 5th is by Edmeston Homer 1st and out of the herd’s Daffodil family. He is recorded as being in the top 1% of the breed for South Devon quality beef and suckler replacement Indexes.
His offspring to date have included Grove Brutus 139 selling for 4800 gns at the Spring 2015 Society sale and Grove Celandine 125, Champion female selling for 3000 gns at the Society 2015 autumn sale.
Due to his reputation for easy calving he’s been used on heifers since 2017.
Grove Wellington 56 has been used since 2016 as an integral part of the Tregoose embryo transfer (ET) and more latterly, in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) programmes.
He is a bull that has produced outstanding calves, evidenced by his enviable track record.
Grove Wellington was the 2009 Junior Bull of the year, 2011 South Devon Senior Bull of the year, as well as winning male and breed champion at both the Cheshire and Great Yorkshire County Shows, and winning the 1st prize senior bull and reserve male champion award at the Royal Welsh Show.
